Alternatives To Traveling When Pregnant

Are you someone who loves to travel? Have you been to lots of different places and had loads of fantastic adventures? Those good times are probably something you want to continue doing - and you will - but if you’re pregnant and depending on what your doctor says, then travel might have to wait for a little while.

By the end of your pregnancy, not only will most airlines not want to run the risk of taking you anywhere, but you probably won’t really feel like it either, as you’ll be tired and your mobility will be reduced, plus your back might hurt, and anyway, you’ll probably be wanting to get things ready for your little one’s arrival.

But the travel bug might still be with you, so what are your options if you can’t actually travel? The good news is, there are some great alternatives to see you through while you’re pregnant until you get hit the open road once more. Read on to see what they are.

Try New Food

Some pregnant women get very hungry - it’s the energy they’re using to develop their baby and it needs to be replaced - and if that’s the case for you (or even if you just want to do something different while you’re waiting for your baby to make an appearance), why not try cooking different and new food

One of the best ways to experience a different culture without leaving your home is through its food, so you can take this time to experiment with new recipes from around the world, and although you won’t be in a different country, you can still experience its cuisine. You could try making sushi, for example, or a great Indian curry, or maybe you prefer baking and want to make some French pastries. Whatever it is, it’s a great alternative to travel and you’ll get something to eat as a bonus.

Watch TV

As we’ve said, pregnancy is tiring, and sometimes there’s nothing better than to just sit for a while and watch TV. If you’re missing the world of travel, you’re sure to find a wide range of different TV travel shows that will take you (virtually, at least) anywhere you want to go. You’ll be able to catch fantastic documentaries, exciting adventure series, cooking shows based in specific countries, and much more.

Maybe you like sports and would normally travel to watch a certain event. Well, in that case, why not try to catch it on TV instead? You could find out where to watch F1 in USA, invite friends and family over, bring out some snacks (or your new dishes), and have a party to watch the event - it’s not quite the same, but it’s still going to be fun.

Read Books

Books are amazing things with the power to really transport us anywhere we want to go, so using them as an alternative to actually traveling can be ideal. Stock up on novels, memoirs, travelogues, and even guide books, and enjoy some time to yourself learning about new places.

You can pick a book that’s set in a place you really want to go to, or you can try one that’s set somewhere you’d never even considered before - it might inspire you. If you read a guidebook, you can even make plans for your next real-life adventure, which is always a fun thing to do.
